Whole House Water Filter for City Water in Raleigh and Across The Triangle
Whole House Filtration for City Water
Enjoy Clean, Chlorine-Free Water
Many Raleigh and Durham homeowners think their city water is “good enough”—but invisible issues like chlorine, chloramine, and emerging contaminants can affect taste, smell, and even skin comfort. City water is treated for safety, but that doesn’t mean it’s pleasant to drink or gentle on your home. Orca Blue’s city water filtration solutions polish your tap water, removing chemicals and mineral hardness that municipal treatment leaves behind. With our help, you’ll notice the upgrade from your very first glass.
Common City Water Problems in the Triangle Area
Chlorine and Chloramine
City water is disinfected with chlorine and chloramine, which can cause an unpleasant taste, pool-like odor, and even dry out your skin and hair. Our systems use activated carbon filters to remove these chemicals—so your water tastes and feels better throughout your home.
Moderate Hardness
Even municipal water in Raleigh and surrounding cities contains minerals that lead to spotting, scale buildup, and soap scum over time. While it’s moderately soft (about 1–2 grains), many notice their water could be gentler. Our water conditioner softens city water, so you get luxuriously soft results—think more bubbles, brighter laundry, and spotless dishes.

How does the Maytag® ITR Series clean your water?

Before water can enter your home, it must first pass through your Maytag® water treatment system.
Unconditioned water enters the mineral tank, which contains a proprietary blend of multiple filtering medias that act like a magnet, attracting undesirable contaminants to their surface and separating them from the water.
Then, the clean, treated water flows back up the riser tube to be distributed throughout your home.
The mid-plate distributor physically separates the media, allowing incoming water to be treated in the order that most thoroughly removes contaminants while also extending the life of the media. Our patented self-cleaning nozzle design improves efficiency further by creating a unique lift-and-swirl motion to completely fluidize the media bed, resulting in increased softening and filtration capacity.
Finally, treated water from the brine tank — the mineral tank’s trusty sidekick — recharges the filtering media so your Maytag® water treatment system can stay ready to treat your water 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Frequently Asked Questions About City Water Filtration
Is Raleigh’s city water hard or soft?
Raleigh’s municipal water is generally considered moderately hard. While it’s not extreme, even moderate hardness means dissolved calcium and magnesium are present in your water. Over time, this can lead to scale buildup inside pipes and appliances, cloudy spots on dishes and glassware, soap that doesn’t lather well, and dry skin or hair after showering. A properly installed water softener for city water helps prevent these issues, improving comfort while protecting your plumbing and appliances.
Will a whole-house filter remove chlorine taste?
Absolutely. Our systems use activated carbon specifically to remove chlorine and chloramine, so your water tastes and smells noticeably better.
Do I still need a drinking filter if I have a whole house system?
A whole-house system greatly improves water quality for all uses, but if you want ultra-pure drinking water, pairing with a reverse osmosis system at the kitchen tap adds an extra layer of filtration.
